Eva NZ is B Corp recertified (and more committed than ever)

We’ve got something big to celebrate: Eva has been recertified as a B Corporation for 2025–2028.

While it’s a proud moment for our team, B Corp recertification isn’t just a badge of honour — it’s a reflection of how we run our business every day. From the way we design our bed frames and sofas to how we treat our team, it signals a deeper commitment to people and the planet.

Our latest certification score is 90.2up from 84.9 in 2022! That growth marks three years of hard work and reflection across every part of the Eva business. It’s the result of deliberate choices — to reduce waste, to support our community, and to ensure every product is crafted with integrity.

And if you’ve ever spent a night on an Eva mattress or curled up on one of our modular sofas, then this milestone belongs to you, too.

So, what’s a B Corp?

B Corp — short for B Corporation — is a global certification awarded to businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

It’s administered by B Lab, a nonprofit organisation helping redefine success in business. B Lab’s mission is to make business a force for good — to support companies that are actively balancing purpose with profit.

What makes B Corp different is that it doesn’t just assess one area (like carbon emissions or fair labour). Instead, it evaluates companies across five key categories: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers. It’s a holistic view of business impact — and certification isn’t easy to earn.

Eva first became certified in 2022. Since then, we’ve made even more meaningful changes to embed responsible practices into every corner of our business. Recertification is proof that we’re not just staying the course — we’re pushing the bar higher.

Let’s dig into what changed — and what’s driving us forward.

People-first practices: Workers & Customers

We saw one of our biggest improvements in the Workers category, with our score jumping from 17.5 to 21.1. This reflects the work we’ve done internally to build a fairer, more inclusive, and supportive workplace. From updated HR policies to better benefits and professional development, we’ve doubled down on our belief that a strong team makes everything else possible.

We also made gains in the Customers category — from 2.7 to 3.5 — a nod to how seriously we take feedback, product safety, accessibility, and ethical communication. Every sofa, mattress, or bed frame we deliver is backed by a desire to make your experience exceptional — not just comfortable, but considered.

Our progress on the planet

Sustainability is stitched into the very fabric of what we do, and that showed in our Environment score — which rose from 9.1 in 2022 to 13.1 in 2025.

Here are a few ways we’ve deepened our environmental impact over the past three years:

  • Zero-waste timber manufacturing: Our award-winning Timber Bed Frame is made with FSC-certified timber and designed to generate minimal waste. Offcuts are repurposed or reused — never discarded.

  • Low-VOC, non-toxic finishes: We prioritise materials that are healthier for you and gentler on the environment.

  • Repairable and flat-pack design: Our products are made to last and easy to move. No tools, no waste, and no need to rebuy when you relocate.

Every choice we make — from packaging to product design — is grounded in the belief that a better future starts with thoughtful decisions today.

Redefining community impact

One area where our score dipped slightly was Community — from 42.1 to 38.8. But there’s more to the story.

In previous years, our community score was bolstered by the number of returned products we were able to donate to charities like the Salvation Army. In recent years, however, product returns have decreased — which is great news in terms of customer satisfaction, but it meant we had fewer physical donations to offer.

That said, our investment in community hasn’t slowed. It’s just shifted.

Over the past three years, we’ve:

  • Hosted a B Corp panel at Eva Carlton House: During B Corp Month, we brought together purpose-led businesses to discuss how to build stronger, more inclusive communities.

  • Supported local creatives during Melbourne Design Week: Our exhibition, FRAY, showcased emerging talent and brought design and sustainability into conversation.

  • Delivered a sofa for the “Bum Test”: One new parent couldn’t make it into the showroom — so we brought the sofa to them. Sometimes community care is as simple as showing up.

Whether it’s through advocacy, partnerships, or meaningful one-on-one moments, we remain committed to being the kind of business that shows up for others.

Progress, not perfection

We’re proud of what we’ve achieved — but we know we’re not done.

Recertifying as a B Corp is more than a box to tick. It’s an ongoing commitment to keep doing better — to be more transparent, more responsible, and more human in the way we operate.

Our updated B Impact Assessment is a roadmap for the years ahead. And with each new initiative — whether it’s sourcing better materials, rethinking packaging, or embedding circular design — we’re moving closer to the business we want to be.

What it means when you shop with a B Corp

When you buy from a certified B Corporation like Eva, you’re backing a business that’s working toward a better world. Here’s what that means in practical terms:

  • Our materials are safe, sustainable, and responsibly sourced.

  • Our products are built to last — saving you money and reducing landfill waste.

  • Our pricing reflects a commitment to fair wages and ethical production.

  • Our team operates under inclusive and transparent practices.

  • Our business is held accountable to more than just profit.

And that’s true whether you’re buying from Eva in Australia or here in Aotearoa.

What’s next?

We’re excited for what the next three years will bring — and even more motivated to keep raising the bar.

Here’s what we’re focusing on next:

  • Innovating in circular design across more of our product range

  • Forging stronger community partnerships within New Zealand

  • Bringing more behind-the-scenes transparency to how we work and why we do it

Because at the end of the day, B Corp isn’t just a certification. It’s a belief — that business can be kind, ambitious, and planet-positive all at once.

Thank you

To every customer, supporter, creative collaborator, and curious reader — thank you. Your trust fuels the work we do, and this milestone is as much yours as it is ours.
