We’ve always believed that furniture should be simple, smart, and built to last — and now we’ve got the award to prove it.
The Eva Timber Bed Frame has officially been named a Good Design Award® Winner — one of the most prestigious accolades in the design world. Thoughtfully crafted, easy to assemble, and made with sustainable materials, the bed frame was recognised for its clean design, practical features, and overall user-friendliness.
“This is a really clever product which achieves the brief and has real usability. A great price point for a quality product, the user is front-of-mind with some elegant added features for laptop / iPad storage. Clean, neat design and it's great that it doesn't use tools." - Good Design Award Jury
What is the Good Design Award®?
Since 1958, Good Design Australia has championed the power of thoughtful design to improve everyday life — from the products we use at home to the systems that shape our communities. As one of the oldest and most respected design bodies in the world, they established the Good Design Award® to spotlight innovations that are not only aesthetically impressive, but also socially responsible, sustainable, and user-centric. Today, the Good Design tick is considered a trusted global symbol of design excellence, awarded only to products that go above and beyond in both form and function.
How did Eva take home the Good Design Award?
It all started when we decided to design an elegant, high-quality bed frame that’s also easy to put together—the sort of bed frame that we couldn’t find anywhere else.
We didn’t want to make something that needed an engineering degree—or a spare weekend—to put together. So we challenged ourselves to create a flat-pack bed frame that could be assembled or taken apart in five minutes flat. No toolbox, no tears, no arguments. Just four steps, a few clicks, and you’re done.
"The brief was to challenge the notion that flat-pack furniture was both poorly made and difficult to put together, by selecting the best quality raw materials and eliminating the dreaded Allen key." — Tom Shaw, Eva Head Product Designer
With the practical side nailed, we turned our attention to the details our customers actually care about: built-in cable management, a device holder, strong slats, and a quiet, squeak-free frame (so you can finally sleep undisturbed).
Built with sustainable values
We also knew that quality doesn’t stop at clever design—it starts with responsible sourcing. Our design team vetted every potential supplier to ensure all timber was FSC-certified, and that every glue and finish used was safe, non-toxic and low in environmental impact. That meant saying no to the kind of chemical-laden materials you’ll often find in budget furniture—and yes to materials you’d actually want in your home.
We embraced the philosophy that ‘waste is a design flaw,’ using precision machinery that maximised each piece of timber. Off-cuts weren’t thrown out—they were repurposed elsewhere in production, helping us reduce waste and keep the bed frame affordable for you.
"When you are using incredible raw materials you don’t want to waste anything. Any off-cuts were used in another process to ensure that we produced virtually zero waste. When it came to selecting the finish for the bed frame we selected a natural oil that emits zero VOC’s." — The Eva Team
The result? A beautifully minimalist bed frame that’s timeless, durable, easy to assemble, and worthy of a Good Design Award®.
"Australia’s Good Design Award® is more than a symbol of design excellence - it represents the hard work and dedication towards an innovative outcome that will ultimately make our lives better" — Dr Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia
Our small design team in Melbourne, Australia, is always looking for ways to create furniture that fits seamlessly into your lifestyle—without compromising on ethics, materials or usability. We’re challenging the common perception of flat-packed furniture as being difficult to assemble, low-quality, disposable, and generic.
"A lot of brands in this market would go down the route of substituting in cheaper raw materials and inferior components in order to bring the costs down. We approached this in a slightly different way and used the best materials and components we could find and then eliminated any of the manufacturing processes that added costs." — The Eva Team
Every Eva product is tested, slept on, moved, dismantled, reassembled and road-tested by real people—so we know it works, and we know it lasts. Winning a Good Design Award® is a huge milestone for us, but more than anything, it’s a nod to the everyday effort we put into making products you’ll genuinely love living with.
