Making Space

At Home with Alice Lines

Alice Lines spends her days telling the stories of beautiful homes. As editor of Homestyle, New Zealand’s independent design magazine, she’s seen it all. But at her place in Christchurch, it’s not about trends. It’s about feeling good.

“Home is doing a lot for us right now,” she says. “It’s where we raise our family, get work done and find time to slow down when we need to. I love that our home is designed to hold all of that.”

One space she’s especially intentional about is the bedroom. It’s pared back on purpose. Even though Alice is a natural collector, she knows when to leave room to breathe.

“I have a busy mind, so an uncluttered bedroom really helps me wind down. It’s the one place where I always prioritise calm.”

That’s where the Eva Timber Bed Frame and Kino Storage fit in. They’re simple and functional, with just the right amount of warmth.

“I’ve always loved timber for what it brings to a space. The Eva bed is easy to style no matter the season, and the storage underneath is clever. Everything’s tucked away but still within reach. It works so well in a multifunctional home like ours.”

This kind of quiet cleverness shows up in everything Alice touches. Nothing feels forced. Just a natural rhythm between form and function, colour and calm.

That same energy runs through the people she works with. “We have so many talented creatives here in Aotearoa, and I have huge admiration for those who keep pushing their practice into new territory. Whether that’s through sustainability goals, evolving their product offerings or building community, there is a lot to admire about the way New Zealanders strive to do things well.”

When she’s not writing, styling, or curating homes for Homestyle, you’ll likely find Alice outdoors. Since moving to Christchurch, her love for the backcountry has only grown.

“There’s something special about keeping it simple. But I also love the finer things. My dream getaway would be a beautifully designed cabin, fresh local food, crisp cotton sheets. A bit of rough-luxe. The kind of escape where you can really disconnect.”

Alice’s home is a quiet reminder that good design isn’t about doing more. It’s about choosing well, creating space to breathe and making your home feel like your own. Every day.

Curious how that calm, collected energy comes together? The Eva Timber Bed Frame has a lot to do with it. It’s understated, warm, and made to fit any kind of rhythm.
