Slideaway Sofa Bed Covers

We had a lot of specifications for our new couch and took forever to choose one. Our last couch was mercilessly destroyed by a combination of cats and a puppy that chewed its cushions. We chose this one in the end for the day bed/sofa bed function allowing everyone (two adults, two dogs, some cats) to comfortably nap or watch TV together on the couch. We’re also in a small two bed unit so happy we have a sofa bed for visitors to sleep comfortably on. Other people commented that it’s hard to pull it out to day bed mode but we found it really is very easy to pull out and put back. 10/10 for that feature. We also liked that we can easily remove all the couch cushions. We added a single waterproof mattress protector on each of the large mattresses which we were happy to be able to do as well. The wooden frame is beautifully designed and also easy to put together. Love the colour we chose too. We less often have it set up as a normal couch size, but that is also comfortable. Happy with our choice!

I really wanted this to be a 5-star review for the Eva Slideaway Bed, and there’s a lot to love—but also a few things that really miss the mark. Here's my honest take:

Design & Craftsmanship: The timber frame is beautiful—minimalist with smooth edges and no sharp corners. The craftsmanship is clearly high-quality and aesthetically pleasing.

Functionality – Slatted Base: The biggest letdown is the sliding mechanism. Once the slatted base is attached, the sliding action is far from smooth—it's wood on wood with too much friction. After placing the futon and cushions, it becomes quite heavy and difficult to operate. The whole unit moves backwards while trying to slide it, so it takes two people—one to hold the frame in place and the other to push. This is a major flaw, especially when ease of transformation was a key selling point.

Cushion Covers: The cushions themselves are firm and supportive, which I prefer. However, the cushion covers have a slight chemical odour, which is a bit off-putting. I’m hoping a wash will fix this.

Overall, it looks great and feels firm, which suits my preference. But the main feature—the daybed-to-double-bed conversion—is frustrating and impractical in its current form. I’ll be trying beeswax to ease the friction, but frankly, at this price point, it’s not acceptable to need DIY fixes.

I really hope Eva considers improving the sliding mechanism. If that were fixed, this would be a near-perfect piece.
